The Lemonade, or Master Cleanse Diet, is gaining popularity on the internet thanks to Beyonce who advertise that she lost 20lbs. in 10 days and how she feels good etc. She makes it out to be some sort of miracle diet. And why not, advertisers know that we have a soft spot for Hollywood stars and anything they endorse makes us consider it and actually buy whatever it is their trying to advertise on us. It's like if they have done it and were successful in doing so, then it must be true. As if we don't know any better, we fall into the trap and try another fad diet after another without any success in the process.
So, here comes the lemonade diet. The first question of course is does it work? How does it work? The diet, or in truth what is considered to be fasting, will ask you to drink lemonade with maple syrup, along with cayenne pepper 6 times a day for ten days or more.

Add to that, you will need to drink a natural laxative made of water and 2 table spoons of sea salt. This diet promises to clean your body and colon and give it a rest from all the toxins - a wonderful combination of losing weight and detoxification. Sounds wonderful doesn't it? But does it work?
Well of course it does, but the question should be at what cost to you and your health? Is it safe? Many people will forget to consider if the diet they are going to try is safe or not. And many doctors will tell you that this on and off cycle of dieting is very bad for your health and should be avoided because it puts us in a worse position to lose weight properly and may have adverse side effects on our internal organs.
The lemonade diet or lemonade fast only works because you are not eating anything. Think about it, if you don't eat for ten days will surely lose weight, even without this plan. The additional laxative that a person takes drastically puts them at risk because they will be losing too much water, minerals and other nutrients that the body needs. Continuous use of laxatives will irritate your intestines and your bowel, and may make your system dependent of the substance.
Some testimonials offered on the internet will say that it works and there are no side effects they've experienced, that in fact they felt good after the cleansing diet. But if you will look closely, these people are just more tolerable and more motivated than others giving them the power to overlook all the inconveniences of any diet brings. But others are testifying of the terrible time they've had during this diet and attest that they will never do it again because of all the health issues they experienced during the fasting or dieting period.
Finally, add in the fact that once you finished this diet, if you even made it that far, you would begin eating again and gain the weight back. This plan simply is not a long term solution for weight loss and will only keep you on the dieting yo-yo.
In the end, we can't think of a single person we could recommend this diet for. There are much better diet plans available than one such as this.
